ASSCO is a dedicated to providing access to operating railways for section car owners and enthusiasts.
The Australian Society of Section Car Operators, Incorporated, is a body that was formed in November 1999 to hold accreditation as an operator under the Rail Safety Act (1996) on behalf of its members. ASSCO is run by its members on behalf of its members. It is a not-for-for profit incorporated entity. The group represents enthusiasts from all mainland states who own or are interested in operating motor section cars (a small railway vehicle used by workers to travel to and from worksites on a railway line) and is structured to provide safe, supervised access to railway corridors.
ASSCO's initial focus was on the railway systems of South Australia. Following
extensive negotiations, ASSCO recieved the authority to operate in Queensland.
This makes the group one of a few heritage operators holding multistate accreditation,
and the only operator of section cars to do so.
It is the groups' intention to broaden its operations to other states and territories,
as interest, its resources and skills as an operator expand. This opportunity
has expanded recently with changes in network management in several jursidictions.
We look forward to a bright future as an operator, and look forward to welcoming
you as a member.
