Members may be able to participate as passengers in a meet depending on availability of seats and the conditions of the section car owner. Membership to ASSCO does not guarantee that a member can participate as a passenger on a meet.

Section Car owners wanting to operate their section car must undergo ASSCO section car operator accreditation. Their section car must pass ASSCO standards and be registered with the appropriate rail network authority (QR in Queensland).

Use of ASSCO/QR registered section cars on any railway without ASSCO and/or QR authorisation is illegal, and will not be tolerated by ASSCO or QR. ASSCO members will be dismissed from the society if they are found to be operating their Section Cars on railways illegally outside ASSCO organised events. Illegal use of any railway corridor can result in criminal prosecution from the railway owner.
